Shop Projects

January Blog 2024

I decided to work on some shop projects today; forced to do so really due to the seven inches of snow on top of eighteen inches of mud outside. As I was doing so, I found myself rummaging through things that I’ll need less than ninety days from now. Items like seed dust, ingredients for starter fertilizer, opener blades that need to be put on my planter, and the list continues…

We as farmers are notorious for being last minute thinkers, and I know that isn’t a good thing. I know that I have lost more than one opportunity due to an attitude of “Oh well, I’ll get that later”, or “When it rains I’ll have time to do that.” All the while proceeding to go and do something that generally doesn’t do much to move the business needle in a productive direction. This is really just me speaking from my own experience.

Shop Projects

I bought a marker board for my office and started writing goals in one column, daily tasks in another, and weekly tasks in the next. Even if I don’t get them all done; heck even though some days are total catastrophes, it still helps me keep an order to my thoughts, and it serves as a reminder for my priorities.

Shop Projects

One of the life coaches I have followed for years says to put goals on sticky notes and place them on your bathroom mirror. Something about seeing them and just the thought doing something in our brain helps align us with those goals of over due shop projects. I can attest to this working.

I challenge you to try it. Both the sticky note deal and the marker board idea. Set some goals and write down some tasks. Some small ones and heck, set some big ones that seem impossible. I’ve had several big ones that when writing down I told myself “this is dumb, no way this is possible” that you know what? I’ll be darn if a couple of them have happened. Sticky notes are cheap and marker boards generally don’t break the bank. I promise, they’re good investments.

Yucca acts as a natural surfactant, wetting agent, and plant bio-stimulant and is derived from a flowering desert plant.  Yucca has been shown to reduce plant stress from drought, heat and salinity.  It increases plant cell wall gas, and liquid exchange.  Applications to soil will assist in the infiltration and absorption of water and nutrients.  Yucca mixes well with most products.
